Time after time...
Time in our life is marked by great moments. One of my most memorable moments would be the completion of my first debut album with my band. I was only 16 at the time, and the album has been a behemoth accomplishment thus far. For the amount of time, dedication, creativity, and emotion put into that album, it is absolutely overwhelming to try to understand what we have created. Going into the process, each practice, each lyric written, each riff written, building up to the day we entered the studio, was like Christmas Eve. The day we began recording was the equivalent of my favourite Christmas day as a child. The time spent in the studio was also great for building and creating bonds with my best friends; my band. Every little detail had attention paid to it and brainstorming was at an all time high. Between our month in the studio, we had a show in NYC. It was great to get out of the studio for a while, especially since it was there. We had the chance to play all of our new songs to get some feedback. We would spend all night working on the material. Sessions would run as late as 5am, just for us to get up 4 hours later and start again. Everything was done sequentially (multi-tracked; drums first, then bass, guitars, etc). For the amount of time we spent on the project, we really did finish it rather quickly. We added so many secrets to each track and you can hear different influences from bands like The Beatles ("A good artist copies; a great artist steals" - Van Gough). Overall, it was a great milestone in my life, especially for the age I was at. How many 16 year olds have the chance to record a professional full length album?
